One of the most exciting developments in film exhibition in recent years has been a growing interest in repertory titles.
Much has been written about the audience development potential of classic cinema, especially among a new generation of MUBI and Letterboxd-inspired Gen Z cinephiles, and about creative approaches to marketing “old movies” to new cinemagoers.
However, when we look beyond the obvious titles, tracking down rightsholders and screenable materials for repertory titles can quickly become complicated. Taking a chance on less well known films can also feel risky, especially when you factor in the high costs and time consuming research that goes into sourcing rare titles.
At the CICAE’s July Arthouse Cinema Meets session, a panel of contributors (including NICE!) from all over the world spoke about their solutions to these challenges.
