On Friday, February 23 at 10am PT / 1pm ET, NICE members are invited to join a Friend of NICE presentation from Reel Canada about National Canadian Film Day.
National Canadian Film Day (CanFilmDay) is back for another incredible year on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, and NICE members are invited to participate by showing a great Canadian film!
As part of Reel Canada’s partnership with the Network of Independent Canadian Exhibitors (NICE), we are delighted to offer exclusive programming to member theatres, including a sneak preview of an exciting new film, some great Canadian classics, and a few other titles we think you’ll love. Explore the full list below.
For any of these films, we will help you secure a copy and cover any screening fees, in order to allow you to hold a free screening. Some of them will also come with pre-recorded introductions or Q&As to enhance your screening. And of course, we’ll also provide materials to help promote your event.
We know that many NICE members already participate in CanFilmDay in partnership with other local organizations. We love this! You might also have your own programming ideas, and that’s great too. If there’s something else you’re interested in showing outside of this list, you can reach out to us at canfilmday@reelcanada.ca and we’ll see what we can do. However you choose to participate in CanFilmDay, we’d love to work with you!
This year, Reel Canada has arranged for a special preview screening of I Used To Be Funny (pictured), a dark dramedy that follows Sam (Rachel Sennott), an aspiring stand-up comedian and au pair struggling with PTSD, as she decides whether or not to join the search for Brooke (Olga Petsa), a missing teenage girl she used to nanny. Screen this film as your CanFilmDay celebration before it hits theatres in June.
