Independent film exhibitors and their colleagues attending Show Canada were invited to join NICE for an Indie Cinema Mixer, supported by Telefilm Canada and hosted by the Vancouver International Film Centre.
Taking place on Monday, May 29, the event welcomed many film exhibitors who had only seen each other previously on Zoom calls or otherwise online. It was a great opportunity to connect and forge new bonds.
Greeting friends in exhibition from across the country in one room, the evening had speeches, mingling and plenty of popcorn. We welcomed the opportunity to meet new people, boost the Support My Cinema letter-writing campaign and promote our new Friend of NICE membership level.
From May 30 to June 1, Show Canada hosts a packed and exciting schedule of industry sessions and presentations for the exhibition sector. This year marks the first NICE Indie Cinema Mixer at Show Canada, and we hope to continue the tradition in order to make face-to-face connections within this important sector before the full conference kicks off.
NICE is also a collaborator on Show Canada’s Independent Theatre Session on Tuesday, May 30.
This event would not have been possible without the financial support of Telefilm Canada, who continue to recognize the importance of independent film exhibition to our greater industry. Telefilm Canada also supported a discounted registration fee for independent exhibitors at this year’s Show Canada, without which many independents would not have been able to attend.
We also extend heartfelt thanks to our venue host and stalwart NICE member, the Vancouver International Film Centre.
